Splendiferous Sunflower, 
You blossom bright,
As you draw in the warmth
Of your namesakes light.
Your whorl of golden petals,
And ineffable beauty charms.  
Your time has come,
Your debut has begun –
Shine sunflower, shine!

You boast hundreds of toothy fruits;
You’ll share with the birds and bees – 
Each little seed that falls upon the ground 
Will ensure you’ll multiply thousands
Like you, with relative ease. 

Your beauty will prompt a sunny smile;
A wow, an ahhh, a sigh –
A place on a counter 
To admire for a while,
Until your splendour withers and dies.
